Song: The Way of the Black Man

In the Service of our Ancestors and African Love,
Listen Seeker, I come in peace,

“Great is Maat (truth, justice, and righteousness). It is everlasting. Maat has been unchanged since the time of Asar.” — Ptahhotep

Though Nature is in a constant state of ‘change’; its laws are unchanging. So it is for the African. We live our lives dynamically; yet at our core our basis is fixed. We are the Creators of Civilizations, thrust in a War with an untiring foe. Our men must know “The Way of the Black Man.”

I wrote this before the birth of my son, but it resonates all the more.

The Way of the Black Man
By Onitaset Kumat
(“The Eye of the Tiger” rhythm)

[Verse 1]
Born in the light but graced with the dark
Once the earth’s unrivaled champion
Moment of kindness with the unkind kind
From the peak, now the depths, to arise

Born with the strength, the Black man defends
He is the fence to the garden
Never at rest for the war that’s abreast
He must fight for his race to survive

[Chorus]
It’s the way of the Black man
It’s the path of Maat
Bringing war to the cancer of the planet

Though he fights from his homeland
He will fight for the Earth
‘Till all men of the world will be called
The Black Man

[Verse 2]
With his wife right by his side
He protects and heals his family
Never at odds with his siblings he strikes
At the heart of the beasts who are white

[Chorus]
It’s the way of the Black man
It’s the path of Maat
Bringing war to the cancer of the planet

Though he fights from his homeland
He will fight for the Earth
‘Till all men of the world will be called
The Black Man

[Verse 3]
Once again, the Black man will rise
Not the first but the last time
As it began so shall it end
The first shall also be the last

[Chorus]
It’s the way of the Black man
It’s the path of Maat
Bringing war to the cancer of the planet

Though he fights from his homeland
He will fight for the Earth
‘Till all men of the world will be called
The Black Man

The Way of the Black Man
The Way of the Black Man
The Way of the Black Man
The Way of the Black Man

    1. Asante!

“The Eye of the Tiger” has a cool tune, but I’m not into singing white boy lyrics; particularly not to my son. It’s nice to replace the words with meaning. I find myself singing it as well!

Please ask any questions that come to mind
